Do you enjoy being around young children? Would you like to have fun while learning about young children? Have you ever considered a career with children? If you answered yes to these questions, Early Childhood Education is the program for you. Junior students work in a preschool with four and five year old children located at Northview High School. Seniors continue their experiences in their choice of elementary schools, preschools or day care centers. During the second semester of their senior year students have the opportunity to go into a paid placement. While enrolled in the two year program you will gain knowledge in child development, guidance techniques, curriculum planning and health and safety. Other areas of study include working with infants and toddlers exploring middle childhood years, children with special needs and an overall view of careers in education. Students completing the program may seek employment in day care, preschool centers, school age programs or become home child care providers. With additional two or four year degrees, possible career choices include elementary or special needs teacher, day care owner or administrator and various other careers relating to the care and education of children. Students earn certifications in communicable disease awareness, child abuse awareness and first aid CPR. Students also complete all required work for a CDA (Child Development Associate).
 

8385 EXPLORING CAREERS IN EDUC. (at NV)

This program is for seniors who desire to pursue a teaching degree in college. Students will be placed in classrooms in the Sylvania School District four days per week for the entire year. This non-paid placement will change each quarter to allow the student four opportunities to work with various age levels and subjects. Possible senior placements include: kindergarten, elementary (grades 1-5), junior high (6-8; all subjects) high school (grades 9-12; all subjects), gifted classes, and special education classes. The remaining day students will be in class at the high school learning about career opportunities in the education field. By having had these experiences, students will be better prepared to choose a major field of study in college, saving them both time and money. Students must provide their own transportation.

Cosmetology is a two-year program that studies in depth the beauty industry. Junior students will automatically be scheduled into Anatomy & Physiology one period per day and will work in both a lab and classroom setting three periods per day.
Cosmetology is a $52 billion a year industry that is growing. It is an industry with zero unemployment. It offers unlimited growth potential for those who set their own goals. Possible career choices for Cosmetology are Hair Stylist, Nail Technician, Make-up Artist, Esthetician, Salon Owner, Salon Manager, and more.
 

8340 COSMETOLOGY II (at NV)

This is the second year program for Cosmetology. Senior Cosmetology students will provide services for clientele, intern in an area salon, and practice for the upcoming licensing exam. Upon passing the exam, the student will be licensed by the State of Ohio as a professional Cosmetologist.

MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES
• Med Tech explore various career opportunities in the health care field and the relationships among various health-related occupations. Med Tech will help students with career planning and decision making.

• Careers that Med Tech will prepare students for are: doctors, nurses,
nursing assistants, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, radiology technologists, dieticians, physical and occupational therapists, patient care, surgical technicians, counselors, and social workers.

 

8300 MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY I (at NV)
8302 ANATOMY

It is expected that all Tech Prep students will successfully
complete Algebra II before graduating.

Med Tech I is a Tech Prep course, which combines two periods of the lab portion of the class with one period of Anatomy & Physiology to give students interested in medical fields an advantage as they pursue their career goals. These classes emphasize a firm foundation in Medical Terminology, Diseases, Ethics, and Emergency First Aid. Hands on applications will be acquired through professional guest speakers, health care field trips and victim/patient care skills. The course covers the following:
Introduction to Health Care and First Responder Course -Students will be trained as First Responders and instructed in basic management of emergency medical/pre-hospital care of the sick and injured. First Responders are trained to reach patients, find out what is wrong and provide emergency care. Students will receive the following certificates: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Emergency Response, Oxygen Administration, Automated External Defibrillation, and Preventing Disease Transmission. All Med Tech students are required to take Anatomy & Physiology which will be automatically scheduled upon enrollment in this program.

Tech Prep Program State Certification eligibility in Patient Care/Health Care Technicians/ Nursing Assistants for seniors who complete both courses.
Prerequisite: Medical Technology I
Classroom Theory: Patient Care Technician - Med Tech 2 prepares you as a Patient Care Technician for practice in various health care settings in providing proper care of the sick or injured patient. The Patient Care Technician will function as an integral member of the patient care team under the direct supervision of an R.N. Students completing the class will be eligible for state certification and immediate employment upon graduation and may continue their college education in medicine, nursing, or diagnostic health care occupations.
Clinical Skills Lab/Clinical Practice - Lab provides the student with hands-on experience in the beginning/intermediate skills required in meeting the patient's needs such as: safety and infection control, body mechanics, lifting, moving and transferring patients, promoting nutrition, vital signs, observation and documentation, direct patient care skills, basic lab procedures, math for pharmacology, wound care, and sterile technique. All Med Tech students are required to take Chemistry which will be automatically scheduled upon enrollment in this program.
